TODAY IN HISTORY - JAN 09 - CHARLES KORTRIGHT
On this day in the year of 1871, Charles Kortright possibly the fastest bowler ever, was born in Essex. There is a famous story that he once bowled a bouncer at Wallingford which flew over the batsman and cleared the boundary for 6 byes. In 1898 he famously told W.G Grace - "Surely you're not going, Doc? There's still one stump standing". This was after he absolutely shattered two of the stumps after Grace had shamelessly tried to bully the umpire out of several dismissals.
